Summer Reading
Dear BFI students,
We hope that you are having a lovely summer break, getting lots of rest and enjoying yourselves.
You will find below the works we would like you to purchase and read over the summer in preparation for your return to school in September. If possible, please purchase the edition mentioned below.
For the Terminale class:
A Streetcar Named Desire, by Tennessee Williams (Penguin Drama ISBN 978-0-141-19027-3)
The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald (Penguin Classics ISBN 978-0141182636)
Attached below you will find the full syllabus upon which you will be examined in May/June 2024. If you would like more reading, please feel free to read ahead, notably The Handmaid's Tale, by Margaret Atwood, which will be studied at the start of Term 2.
For the Première class:
A Streetcar Named Desire, by Tennessee Williams (Penguin Drama ISBN 978-0-141-19027-3)
If you would like to read more, please feel free to read The Great Gatsby (to be studied in Nov-Dec.) and/or The Handmaid's Tale (to be studied in Jan-Feb.).
Additional recommendations:
It may sound a bit scary at first but we advise you to write in your books as you are reading them - to record first impressions, start noticing patterns that you can identify with your own icons, highlight those "ahah" moments and significant quotes... You will thank yourself when revision time comes and you are looking for that page!
Please do not hesitate to alert your classmates to this information so that everyone is prepared in September. We expect students to have read the primary works identified by the first week of September.
Enjoy the summer: happy reading and see you soon!
